We reached out to Senator Ipson to urge him to honor the will of the people by accepting the August 25, 2025 ruling overturning Senate Bill 200 and reinstating Proposition 4—the voter-approved independent redistricting commission measure from 2018. We asked him to:

- Cease all appeals and follow the court’s corrective process.
- Collaborate in good faith to adopt a redistricting map that adheres to the criteria established by Proposition 4.
- Demonstrate respect for Utah’s democratic process by empowering—not obstructing—the electorate’s decisions.
Utah’s democracy is strongest when its government acts in accordance with both the letter and spirit of citizens’ will. By embracing this ruling and implementing fair maps, you are likely to earn a legacy of trust. Continuing to subvert the will of the people not only undermines your own integrity and honor, but it rips away any foundation of legitimacy and confidence in your representation.
The Senator’s response (emphasis ours):
Thank you for reaching out. While I respectfully disagree with the recent court ruling, I remain committed to protecting the voices of all Utahns and defending the constitutional authority of the Legislature. Despite an arbitrary 30-day deadline, we will move forward with redrawing Utah’s congressional map while also pursuing every legal option available, including a possible appeal to the Utah Supreme Court.
Our goal remains the same: to ensure each member of Congress represents both urban and rural voices so all Utahns, whether in small towns, suburban neighborhoods, or our capital city, have strong representation in Washington, D.C.
Our follow-up:
Thank you for your response. Respectfully, I don’t care if you disagree with the recent court ruling, Senator. You are not there for yourself. You are there as a representative of your constituents. I would happily help organize a town hall so you can hear from us. We do not want you to override the voice of the people in order to defend the constitutional authority of the Legislature. The Legislature has proven itself, time after time to not care about what is good for the people they “represent.” You are a Senator, sir, at OUR behest. And it is time you and your GOP colleagues understand that. You fight for your own best interests and the interests of the Legislature to continue to trample on people’s rights and services. There is NO justification for undermining the will of the people. I would ask you to reconsider your support and to agree to a town hall to hear from constituents. At a minimum, I would like to meet with you along with 2 of my colleagues to discuss this further.
