It’s No Laughing Matter

A few weeks ago I started receiving reports of an ICE incident that happened at the new Costco on Desert Color Parkway (Phone: 435-215-1079). What I first was told:

Shortly before closing on Friday, July 17, 2026 a husband and wife and one other man were taken down by an undercover ICE agent with the help of local law enforcement. They were chased from outside in the parking lot to the inside of the warehouse.

Slammed to the ground, terrified and humiliated, these people also had to endure the laughing and cheering on of the ICE agents by some spectators in the store. A witness reported some Costco employees were among those showing their glee.

Appalled and outraged that this happened – people laughed – I called Costco. I wanted to get confirmation of the incident (had not yet received the video) and to find out if Flock cameras are in use on their premises.

The manager at first said he didn’t know what I was talking about and that he wasn’t there. When pressed, he said he heard it happened outside. I asked if Costco and/or that location had a policy with regards to ICE or if FLOCK cameras are in use. He would only say that ICE was there and they support law enforcement and had no further comment.

Next, I called corporate to see what they knew about this incident and what kind of policy they have with regards to ICE and Flock cameras. Member services called this location (Desert Color Parkway 435-215-1079) and essentially got the same info the manager told me. The rep said that Costco Corporate does not have an ICE policy, nor one with regards to Flock Cameras.

Another person, from the TWSU Signal Group, also called the Corporate Office. They were told “we do not have a record of permanently installed cameras at that location” and was told “that the police have mobile flock cameras that they use and that Costco would not stop them from using them.” They were asked if they wanted to file an official complaint, which they did. Their membership number taken along with a request for the Company’s official stance on Flock cameras and confirmation that an inquiry will happen with the location about any cheering done by employees.

Costco got back to this individual and told them that there are no Costco flock cameras on their property but reiterated St. George Police can use them. They also said there was no ICE activity on Friday and if there had been and someone cheered that would be discouraged.

Another person followed up and was told Corporate was made aware of arrest and is looking into it and emphasized there was no cheering.

Boycotting is probably unreasonable to ask. But I think we can ask that they not allow their properties to be used for ICE activities.
