TogetherWorks Southern Utah Endorses Candidates in Select Washington County Primaries

Candidates chosen from Hurricane, Ivins and St. George

(ST. GEORGE, UTAH, JULY 25, 2025) – After consideration of survey responses, review of experience, leadership, and vision, the TogetherWorks Southern Utah (TWSU) Board of Directors selected six candidates from a field of 32 to endorse for the August 12, 2025 Primaries in the cities of Hurricane, Ivins and St. George located in Washington County, Utah. TWSU supports:

  • Katheryn Knight – Hurricane – City Council
  • Wayne Pennington – Ivins – City Council
  • Mike Scott – Ivins – City Council
  • Nathan Caplin – St. George – City Council
  • Jami Leavitt – St. George – City Council
  • Michele Randall – St. George – Mayor

“These candidates most align with our mission and values, including feasible plans, inclusiveness, communication, transparency, and the recognition that their cities are made up of constituents, not just special interest groups,” says TWSU co-chair Jill Stevens.

Surveys were sent out July 9, 2025 and each candidate was asked:

  • Why should people vote for you over other candidates?
  • How will you ensure our infrastructure can support future growth, particularly when it comes to water?
  • What steps will you take to ensure affordable housing is available in our city?
  • How do you plan to ensure equitable economic opportunities for all residents and make sure all voices, especially marginalized communities, are heard and considered in city decisions?
  • What would you prioritize in the city budget, and what would you consider cutting?
  • Which Disney character do you most relate to and why?

This was the first time for TWSU to conduct a candidate survey and according to co-chair Lysa McCarroll, “Not knowing what to expect we decided to focus on just these three Primaries.” She went on to say they have received interest from other cities and counties and how they can be included in any future surveys.

McCarroll also said “We think this is the kind of non-partisan information people having been seeking to help them make informed choices at the ballot box.”
