A last minute state-wide protest organized by Indivisible brought residents of Washington County out to Celeste Maloy’s St. George Office to protest the “One Big Beautiful Bill.” If the bill passes it will prove devastating to many Utahans. The latest update from 5calls.org just on the Medicaid portion:
July 1, 2025: The Senate has passed H.R. 1 by a vote of 50-51, with J.D. Vance providing the tie-break YES vote. The legislation slashes Medicaid funding e biggest cuts to Medicaid in history, primarily via imposition of burdensome work requirements and caps on provider taxes, and is estimated to result in nearly 12 million people losing Medicaid coverage. The bill now moves back the House for final passage. If the House cannot whip the votes to pass the Senate-passed version of H.R. 1, the legislation will need to go to conference committee.
